VCare Foundation

V Care was founded 23 years ago by Vandana Gupta.

In early 1993, Vandana Gupta was diagnosed with cancer. As Vandana fought the disease with great determination, grit and courage and emerged successful, Vandana made a commitment to serve and for giving emotional and other support to cancer patients to fight and survive cancer.

On 21st February 1994, V Care Foundation made an humble beginning with only eight volunteers with practically nothing in hands but only strong will power to help cancer patients initially at Tata Memorial Hospital. We were guided by Dr. S.H Advani, his colleagues, nurses and staff.

Twenty five years later we are a team of dedicated volunteers, we have had the privilege of rigorous training and the support of several experts all over the globe. In collaboration with various organisations in the world we are now known for our service and dedication to empower cancer patients in Mumbai.

OUR MISSION

V Care Foundation is a voluntary support group dedicated to providing free help, hope, awareness and education to cancer patients and their families through outreach programs and services that improve the quality of their lives.

OUR VISION

Together we can and together we will conquer cancer.

UNIQUE STRENGTH

V Care Foundation conceived and developed philosophical approach to its mission, providing free help and support through outreach programmes, providing services that improve the quality of their lives; it emanated from its convictions and beliefs that the patient’s mind and spirit could be nurtured. This is possible only if deep insight is developed through experience and structured research into a variety of needs of a cancer patient, his/her psychological feelings at different stages of cancer and through a continuous and meaningful networking with all its stakeholders.

Honorary volunteers group is a distinguishing strength; it consists of either cancer survivors and those who had some experience in helping cancer patients or those who have empathy for those who suffer and with high sense of commitment and passion. They are not paid volunteers; in fact; they pay to V Care Foundation a small amount of annual subscription.

A three-tier governance structure consists of 9 eminent trustees for determining foundation policy and strategic direction. From amongst them, a core group of four trustees facilitate various activities; coordinate efforts of volunteers, manage relationship with external stakeholders. A group of volunteers form the backbone of the foundation, which interacts with patients, give ideas for extending service and support to cancer patients, it keeps the foundation ticking.

V Care has a close working relationship with Tata Memorial Hospital, amongst others in the Mumbai area and its core services to patients include:

• Counselling and providing reliable information to patients

• Patient & family support

• Financial assistance

• Support to children with cancer

• Nutritional support

• Ummeed- A 24/7 Helpline.

As we complete 25 years in service, We are even more motivated and dedicated to empower, in each Person we meet, the will to conquer cancer.

A notoriously dreadful illness, cancer is one of the leading causes of death. More than death it is fear and stigma. It strikes regardless of race, socioeconomic status, gender, or age.

By creating awareness, we want to help lead the fight against cancer in years to come. Generous donors, such as you, stand by our side, enabling us to cultivate these big ideas in their earliest stages.

The V Care team would like to thank IWCA for their ongoing and crucial support each year. Be it the Diwali Hampers, for Share-A-Celebration, which adds joy to the the day of the patients under treatment, during Diwali, or significant projects such as Ice Buckets for storing their medicines before and during chemotherapy, IWCA has always extended their support and added to our strength.

We believe Together We Are Stronger and we look forward to your support in years to come.

Wishing you all the very best in all your endeavors.

Sincerely,

Vandana Gupta
